8 Unique Ways to Flavor Water So You’ll *Want* to Drink It

If you’re trying to increase your daily water intake, nix your soda habit, or are just bored with regular ol’ water, you can breathe a sigh of relief: You’ve got more options.

Take a second and imagine all the different kinds of fruit available at the market, and all the ways you can combine them. Each and every one of them (well, except bananas) is a potential way to add flavor and pizzazz your H2O. It’s almost shameful that lemon is often the only one to land in our water glasses.

Fruit-infused water isn’t necessarily healthier than plain H2O, but it does give your water a refreshing, fruity kick. This might help you drink more water throughout the day, which not only helps you prevent dehydration, but it may also help you drink fewer sugar-laden bevvies, like soda. Find out how much water you should drink daily here.

Ready to jazz up your agua? Try these fun mixes:

  • Strawberry mojito water: For a taste of the Cuban speciality, add strawberry halves, fresh mint leaves, and a slice of lime. Or skip the strawberry and enjoy a traditional mojito.

  • Orange basil water: The bright citrus and peppery herb are a delightful pairing. Add an orange slice and fresh basil leaves.

  • Cucumber melon water: Add a cucumber slice and diced watermelon. If you want, add a mint leaf, or swap honeydew for the watermelon. (Cucumber gives off a ton of flavor, so one slice is usually enough.)

  • Peach melba water: Like the classic dessert, add a frozen peach slice and a few fresh raspberries. Fresh peaches work, but the frozen slices are a little less messy (bonus: they chill your drink!).

  • Lemon ginger water: For water with a spicy kick, add lemon slices and thin ginger slices. If you have a juicer, try juicing the ginger and adding a teaspoon of fresh ginger juice instead. (Ginger slices will create a more muted flavor, while juiced ginger will really pack a punch.)

  • Strawberry basil water: From salsas to shortcakes and now your H2O, this trendy combo has been delighting taste buds for years. To get the best flavor, halve fresh (not frozen) strawberries and combine with fresh basil leaves.

  • Peach thyme water: Wanna try something really different? Add frozen peach slices, a slice of lemon, and a sprig of fresh thyme (which adds an earthy, minty, floral flavor).

  • Pineapple mint water. Pineapple gives major flavor. Try sliced pineapple (fresh or frozen) with some fresh mint leaves. Alternatively, try it with basil instead of mint.

These combos are delicious, but they’re barely scratching the surface. You can also play with kiwi, papaya, mango, blueberries, turmeric, cayenne, sage, lavender, apples, and more. You can also go sangria-style and add a lot of fruit at once. (Check out how to make this “water sangria” here.)

If you throw these ingredients into your water bottle in the morning, you can often refill it a few times to enjoy another round before the flavors start losing their luster.

Say hello to hydration, because you’re about to see a lot of each other from now on.
